Joining Story Giant Games as the lead writer for Text Express: Word Adventure was an exhilarating challenge that involved seamlessly integrating myself into the vibrant and imaginative world that had already captured the hearts of players. Despite joining well over a year after the initial release, my role involved not just catching up, but propelling the game’s narrative into new and exciting territories.

In collaboration with the Creative Director, I played a pivotal role in shaping the overarching story plots for upcoming chapters. This involved engaging discussions to ensure that each narrative arc maintained the essence of the game’s steampunk/fantasy world while contributing fresh and compelling elements to Tilly’s ongoing journey that remained congruent to the story from previous chapters.

My primary focus was on writing the game’s ongoing plot, seamlessly continuing Tilly’s exploration of the enchanting world by train as she embarked on a quest to find her parents. These segments were crafted with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring they seamlessly fit into the existing narrative while significantly upping the stakes and propelling players closer to the story’s final chapters.

Additionally, I created side stories that added layers of depth to the gaming experience. These stories featured both familiar characters and introduced quirky new cast members, contributing to the game’s rich tapestry of personalities and adventures.

The impact of our collaborative efforts resonated far beyond the creative process.Text Express: Word Adventurewas nominated for Game of the Year at the PG Mobile Games Awards 2023, and earned the prestigious title of Best Puzzle Game at the 2022 Pocket Gamer Awards, a testament to the combined efforts of the development team. The game’s popularity soared, with well over 100,000 downloads on both the Apple Store and Google Play Store. Its success is further underscored by an impressive rating of 4.5, based on nearly 6000 reviews, highlighting the positive reception from a vast and diverse player base.
